Directions to Wildwood

It can take about 2 hours to get to Wildwood from the Bay Area; Point by point directions to Wildwood Retreat Center (20111 Old Cazadero Rd. Guernville 95446) can be found on their website, www.wildwoodretreat.com (under “contact us”) or by going to your favorite on line map/directions site. If all else fails, remember that Wildwood is at the end of Old Cazadero Rd., and that road is half a mile after the Safeway in Guerneville!

In case of an emergency, call Guy at five-one-zero, two-two-nine-nine-two-three-four, or try Wildwood’s landline seven-zero-seven, six-three-two-five-two-zero-zero. You can arrive any time after 2pm, and use the pool and hot tub. We should be ready to check you in at 3pm.

What to Bring – or think about bringing, other than your fabulous self!

Casual summer attire. It will most likely be warm during the day and may get cool in the evening. We usually designate the swimming pool area as clothing optional. Mornings can be cool in the meeting room (it’s in the shade), consider taking socks along.

· Light jacket or sweatshirt

· Sunglasses / Hat

· Hiking Shoes

· Sleep wear / favorite pillow / blanket

· Swimsuit

· Bath towel for the pool and if you’d like to participate in the Massage/Touch session

· Favorite body lotion (optional) if participating in the Massage/Touch session

· Flashlight & Batteries (especially if in a tent or the yurt)

· In the yurt: your own sleeping bag / pillow

· Toiletries: soap, shampoo, etc.

· Sunscreen

· Insect repellent

· Ear Plugs

· “No-Snore” Nose Strips

· Camera

· Prescription Medications

· Over the counter medicines you may need.

· Watch or Travel Alarm Clock

· A book (to read and/or share)

· Favorite board games, playing cards

· Additional favorite snacks or soda if needed (a refrigerator is available outside the dining-room: label it with your name please). Don’t keep food where raccoons will find it and ruin your week-end.

Sunday night we will hold our traditional Talent/No Talent Show, followed by a Dance Party. Bring a poem, story, musical instrument, music (we can plug in CD’s and ipods), drag outfit, whatever you’d like to present. Don’t be shy, there will be no judges!!! We can also help you improvise something (skits, dance, impro, etc.). The Dance Party is called Abbacchanalia – you guessed it: favorite ABBA outfits and Togas (hint: a white sheet is a good start) will be highly admired.

Eventbrite - Discovery Community's Memorial Day Week-End 2013

Join a diverse group of men as we come together to enjoy camaraderie, spirit, fun and connection in the beautiful hills above Guerneville and the Russian River. Another legendary Discovery Community week-end at Wildwood Retreat (our fifth consecutive year) to energize the spirit and stimulate the body.  This year we want to celebrate Spring and the renewal, the rebirth that it evokes. Spring Awakening*!

The week-end will provide opportunities for self-exploration, making new connections, and having lots of fun. There will be plenty of activities to enjoy and participate in of your choosing. You can hike through the redwoods, take in the spectacular views from Julie Andrews Point, and frolic in the swimming pool and hot tub. And even play dress up, show your talent and dance the night away. The weekend offers the chance to bond with new friends or just hang out, relax, eat great food and enjoy yourself.

All activities in our program are optional, but you will get the most benefit and enjoyment by participating in theme-driven large group meetings designed to let you meet everyone, do some self-exploration and renewal.  Then there are small group meetings in which you can exchange issues and ideas with others in a relaxed setting.  More diverse activities are offered to spend time together in workshops/playshops (volunteer-led by guys like you).  At night we play games, give massage, relax in the hot tub, get together around a fire, stargaze,…  There’s plenty of opportunities to connect with others or spend time by yourself, to fit your needs and taste!

*** In the past few years, Wildwood tents have been occupied by only one person. This could very well happen again this year, but it can’t be guaranteed.

* while there is a play and musical called Spring Awakening, the week-end will bear no resemblance to it!  Unless of course you wish to bring it to the Talent / No Talent Show (Sunday night)
